My definition of community

This definition of “community” has firmed up as I continue to lead or participate in a large number of physical and virtual communities.

This table of communities lists the ones I was a member of as at January 2019.

A community: -

1. is a group of people
2. who live or do some part of life together
3. reside/work/operate in the same physical location or virtual location
4. has shared interests
5. has shared beliefs
6. has rules that the community lives by
7. makes decisions in an agreed way
8. has a facilitator(s) and/or leader(s)
9. can be open or closed re rules to join or to participate
10. has shared goals
11. expects all members to contribute in some way for the community's greater good
12. meets together in a variety of ways and combinations for some purpose each time all or some part of the community meets

Each of the above can be explicit or implicit.
