Came across John via a tweet last Friday of a Do Lecture that he delivered back in 2012.
“Aim for icebergs” was a counter-intuitive title that drew me in.
Love this talk, love the guy’s spirit, candour, attitude and passion.
Love how he changed his career trajectory from Reebox/Nike etc to an artisan shoe maker (“Resurrecting a brand and a community in Maine.”, love how writing things down helped him change, love his manifesto. Love that he has only ever written one blog post – probably because he nailed it in one!
Did not know much about Maine before watching but it is reminding me of my favourite place in the world – The Isle of Skye.
This would also be a good watch for those into footwear, making things, traditional artisanship and craft generally.
Stumbled over Do Lectures a few years back. Forever grateful for being introduced to Euan Semple via his Do Lectures talk “Why social network mess can benefit your business”. Another fave is Tim Berners-Lee’s “How the World Wide Web just happened”.
