John’s blog post

=====

... John, thanks, as always, for your authenticity as you communicate ...

... your post resonates very powerfully with me ...

... you have used music and that always draws me in ...

... lost Mum 4 years ago to pancreatic cancer 3 weeks after diagnosis ...

... lost Dad (80) without warning last June to a massive stroke ...

... grateful for their example and influence on me and their heritage from Manchester (England, UK) and Aberdeen (Scotland, UK) ...

... so only me and my sister now and our respective extended families ...

... remembering being with Dad at Spring Harvest (http://www.springharvest.org/), his first time, last Easter, huge Christian teaching conference in 2 locations, multiple weeks, this next song has always been special to me, always tears singing it even before Dad died ...

... but singing it with Dad there (it is a special spiritual "place" for me, been every year in 3 places around the UK since 1988, the tagline of the event is "equipping the church for action") these lines struck me at the time ...

... " The sun comes up
It's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass
And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
When the evening comes" ...

... and then more poignantly (Dad had started slowing down and used a walking stick) ...

... " And on that day
When my strength is failing
The end draws near
And my time has come
Still my soul will
Sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years
And then forevermore" ...

... at the committal at Dad's funeral , the song was played on the sound system, the family unexpectedly and unprompted joined in spontaneously singing along, powerful and deep memories ...

... the church where the video was shot is Zion Church in Berlin, where German pastor, theologian, and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer served as a youth leader ...

... on the wider theme of accepting who you are ... I "got" this Tiesto song, "Just Be" appropriate lyrics (spookily, today's chapter in the Essentialism book is "Be") ...

... " You can travel the world
But you can't run away
From the person you are in your heart
You can be who you want to be
Make us believe in you
Keep all your light in the dark
If you're searching for truth
You must look in the mirror
And make sense of what you can see
Just be" ...

... " They say learning to love yourself
Is the first step
That you take when you want to be real" …

... on the theme of roots, the church I am a member of and on the leadership team of, is now in its 182nd year, see picture (https://goo.gl/TDBeR9) for a couple of paragraphs on how we started, those issues still confront our neighbourhood in Bradford (England, UK) today, just one year ago we had to put our social action charity into administration as our funding sources dried up (UK Government, Local Government and the EU) with the loss of c20 jobs, the need is still there ...

... a company's origins are often fascinating, HP's garage is one example, here is a video of HP's history, powerful message about the purpose of companies and always good to hear Jim Collins ...

... and a history of the internet / www ...

... just re-read the post again and "King of Pain" came to mind, a fave The Police tune ...
