Clare Foges, speechwriter and special advisor to Prime Minister David Cameron

Stumbled over Clare Foges whilst reading this Daily Mail article on Dan Jarvis.
Clare was until recently David Cameron’s speechwriter.

“In her 20s, she could be seen driving an ice cream van around Guildford to earn some extra cash.
Her entrepreneurial spirit also extended to a Christian clothing business and she designed her own jewellery.
Ice cream Woman is not quite the same as White Van Man, of course. Foges does have the true blue credentials to appeal to party traditionalists.
She's an intruiging mix of modern woman (complete with skinny jeans and leopard print heels) and traditionalist. A devout Christian with strong family values, her mother is a foster carer and Foges grew up surrounded by children the family had taken in.”
(from the Daily Mail article listed below)

“Friends, Readers, Conservatives: oratory is dying.
Rhetoric is always in decline; the Romans feared it had died with Cicero.  But it is undeniable that in recent history we have witnessed a slow sterilisation of public debate which is impoverishing politics and perhaps endangering democracy itself.
…..
Vague euphemisms are strung loosely together in series of simple sentences, devoid of eloquence or allusion, or any other linguistic mechanism that might elevate the oratory of those who run our country. Though such speech has the appearance of simplicity and transparency it is opaque – it gives no true idea of how our public figures genuinely feel about the issues in hand and no concrete terms of what they will do about them.”(from the Conservative Home article below)
